This Month’s fitness Walk For-Life is the fourteenth in its series.
Today’s edition coincided with the twelfth Police Games being hosted in Anambra State.
The walk covered a distance of about nine point five kilometers, starting from the open field opposite Governor’s lodge Amawbia to the Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka through the Expressway with refill points to keep participants hydrated.
Anambra indigenes and residents turned out in their numbers to join in the walk including Senator Victor Umeh, the Secretary to the Anambra State Government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu, Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Uchenna Okafor and other top government functionaries.
Speaking at the end of the event, the Chairman of the Anambra State Sports Development Commission, Chief Tony Oli said that the walk was a way of welcoming the Nigeria Police for their games.
In a remark, Senator Victor Umeh, who expressed excitement for being part of the walk, emphasizing that hosting the Nigeria Police Games in the State shows the level of security the government has brought to the State . Also speaking, the Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Uchenna Okafor and Secretary to the State Government Professor Solo Chukwulobelu noted that the State is ready to host the Police Games, as every logistics and facility have been put in place, noting that the game will also increase economic activities in the state.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Vincent Okpala in his reaction, reiterated the Anambra State government’s readiness to respond to emergencies and challenges that might arise during the Police Games while the Commissioner for Basic Education, Professor Kate Omenugha revealed that school activities will continue during the period of the games, dispelling rumours of closing schools for the games.
The event featured its regular ogene music, fruit breakfast and aerobic exercise at the end of the walk.
