Anambra State House of Assembly has passed a bill for a law to regulate the Public Financial Management of Anambra State to ensure that all revenue, expenditure, assets and liabilities of Government are managed efficiently and effectively to meet current and future challenges of the State and to provide for related matters.


The House passed the Executive bill during yesterday’s plenary.
House of Assembly correspondent, Chukwuemeka Modilim reports that while throwing more light on the bill, the Majority Leader, Dr. Nnamdi Okafor hinted that the bill will ensure transparency, accountability and sound management of revenue, expenditure, assets and liabilities of Anambra State Government and other public institutions of the state.


On his part, the Chairman House Committee on Information and Culture, Honourable Okechukwu Okoye noted that it will eliminate waste, corruption, improve the economy of Anambra State and ensure equitable distribution of resources.


The member representing Njikoka Two Constituency, Dr. Pete Ibida commended the Executive Arm of Government for the initiative as according to him, it will block loopholes through which the state funds are diverted into private pockets.


Speaker of the House, Right Honourable Uche Okafor expressed confidence that the bill, when signed into law will attract more funds to Anambra from Donor Agencies.


Also at the plenary, the House passed a resolution inviting the Commissioners for Health and Information and Public Enlightenment to appear before it on Thursday at the plenary to brief them on the proactive measures being taking, the level of sensitization of Ndi Anambra and overall preparedness of the state to handling any outbreak of coronavirus in Anambra State.
