The Vice Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Ojumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam, Professor Greg Nwakoby, has described the increase in cases of cultism, drug abuse and communal violence among youths as a source of worry for every right thinking Nigerian.
The Vice-Chancellor, made the remark when members of the Rotary International, District 9142 Nigeria, paid him an advocacy visit in his Office, at the Igbariam Campus.
Blessing Uchendu reports that Professor Nwakoby who was during the visit honoured for his polio eradication initiative by Rotary International and her partners, expressed delight for being appreciated and decorated as a Paul Harris fellow of Rotary foundation and promised to continue with his humanitarian services.
He also pledged his unalloyed support in partnering with the club in the fight against cultism, drug abuse and societal violence.
Earlier, the President Rotary Club, Awka, Professor Uche Nwogwugwu, said that one of the aims of the visit was to appreciate the vice-chancellor for his continued support towards the fight against polio.
He added that Rotary Club has been at the forefront of the fight against cultism and drug abuse in the state, calling for a lasting partnership with the institution on their forthcoming seminar on anti-cultism, drug abuse and violence coming up soon, to ensure that the state achieved perfect social safety and harmony.
On his part, the Pioneer Governor of Rotary International, District 9142, Dr Emman Ude-Akpeh, who noted that the struggle was to bring cases of social vices to zero in Anambra State, called on other affluent Nigerians to put more efforts as the desired result would soon be realized.
In their various contributions, Chairman Peace Building, Conflict Prevention and Resolution Committee of Rotary District 9142, Rotarian Chika Ekwueme, the Past Assistant Governor of the Club, Professor Austin Nonyelu, Assistant Governor Zone Seven, Professor Frank-Collins Okafor and that of Zone Eight, Dr Dennis Ekemezie all harped on the need for a concerted effort in the fight against cultism.
Decoration of the Vice Chancellor as a Paul Harris fellow of rotary foundation and presentation of four way test plaque climaxed the visit.
