Notwithstanding his self confidence and swag, it is an undeniable truth that the Anambra state governor, Sir Willie Obiano, is, probably, the most friendly and jovial person to have so far occupied the Government House, Awka. While he was in the private sector, Sir Willie worked very hard and rose to the enviable height of the executive director of one of Nigeria’s leading banks.

Chief Obiano is a very compassionate and generous man, even before he became the governor of Anambra state. His humanity jells perfectly with his wife’s kind disposition, hence, the palpable love and synergy between the duo. Dr. Ebelechukwu Obiano’s pet project, the Caring Family Enhancement Initiative, CAFÉ, is one of the most humanitarian Non Governmental Organisations in Nigeria. Its generosity extends beyond the shores of Nigeria.

The goodness of the Obianos is infectious as is being attested to by most of their friends, close associates, political appointees, public and civil servants as well as the generality of Ndi Anambra at home and in the Diaspora.

Sir Willie is enjoying very cordial relationship with his predecessors and former deputy governors of Anambra state such as Dr. Chinwoke Mbadinuju, Senator Chris Ngige, Dame Virgie Etiaba, Senator Andy Uba and Chief Emeka Sibeudu etcetera

The relationship of Governor Obiano with his deputy, Dr. Nkem Okeke, since 2014, is akin to that which existed between the biblical David and Jonathan. The present Anambra helmsman is also connecting well with all his political appointees. They are all fervently loyal to him because of his humanity and genial disposition to them.

Members of the state legislature and other politicians, irrespective of party affiliations, are associating amiably with Sir Willie Obiano. Perhaps, this explained why majority of them worked with the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, to give Obiano unprecedented victory in the twenty-one local government areas of the state in the 2017 gubernatorial election.

Unlike some persons, Obiano is not inclined to Pull Him or Her Down Syndrome of typical Nigerian politicians. He is also not into the selfish brand of some politicians. Sir Willie abhors unholy preachment of hatred and vendetta against anyone, unlike what is presently being done to him by certain unforgiving politicians in Anambra state.

Little wonder, in spite of the minor differences which arose in APGA after its primaries in 2019, Governor Obiano remains the party’s rallying point. Today, he has brokered enduring peace in the party. The likes of the party’s national chairman, Dr. Victor Ike Oye, Senator Victor Umeh and Professor Chukwuma Soludo are all forging ahead with Governor Obiano as the national leader of APGA. And their ships are now sailing in one direction.

For this reason, APGA is presently rejuvenated as a very strong, formidable and united family. The party is indeed being spurred by its motto of “be your brothers’ and Sisters’ keeper”, which in Igbo language means; “onye aghana nwanne ya”.
