The Permanent Orientation camp of the National Youth Service Corps NYSC in Anambra has been commissioned by Governor Willie Obiano.
The newly built and equipped facility is
situated at Mbaukwu-Umuawulu.
The facility has the capacity to accommodate over three thousand people.
The present Batch ‘A’ Stream Two set will be the first set of corps members to use it after its inauguration.
Commissioning the facility, Governor Obiano who said that his administration approach things from the economic point of view, pointed out that apart from accommodating the corps members, the camp can generate three hundred direct jobs and over one thousand indirect jobs, calling on the newly inducted corps members to participate effectively in the exercise , as well as learn Igbo language and culture during their stay in the State.
The Governor reiterated his commitment to completing the ongoing NYSC skill acquisition center for the South, assuring increased commitment to the scheme.
The Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Sunday Dare in his speech, recalled that the present Buhari-led government increased the monthly allowance of the corps members and commended the Governor for always investing in youth development programs, calling on States who are yet to build a permanent orientation camp, to do so for increased effectiveness of the scheme.
Also speaking, the NYSC Coordinator in the State, Mr. Kehinde Aremu, applauded the Governor for his investment in security, human capital and youth empowerment, stressing that all participating corps members are certified free from Corvid-19, noting that they have displayed uncommon discipline.
He disclosed that in the next three weeks, participants will be exposed to the people and culture of Ndi Anambra, among other programs.
Also present at the ceremony were the Director General, NYSC, Brigadier General Shaibu Ibrahim, the Speaker of the State house of Assembly, Right Honourable Uchenna Okafor, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Primus Odili, among others.
Recall that the foundation stone of the NYSC facility was laid by the present administration on 15th February, 2015.
The facility commissioning ceremony also coincided with the swearing in ceremony of the 2020 Batch A, Stream One corps members.
