Media practitioners have been urged to introduce innovations that will enable them tackle new challenges emerging from digital technogy and social media practice.


he Publisher of Premium Times Newspapers Mr Dapo Olorunyomi made the call at the end of a two – day training on Sustainable Business Model for News Departments of media organizations across the country held in Lagos State.

the training organized by Premium Times Center for Investigative Journalism attracted principal News personnel from both print and broadcast media organizations across the country .


The goal of the interaction is to assist decision makers in the Newsroom to design functional and sustainable bottom -line policies for their organisations to strengthen capacity.


Mr. Olorumyomi said there is need to give sense of prosperity to journalists who spent years to serve society and defend democracy.


He noted that technology has totally re-engineered journalism practice across the globe, urging media organizations to explore untapped opportunities in data generation, storage and utilization.


Mr Olorumyomi maintained that collaboration and synergy among media organizations are imperative for collective success, stressing that strong media is fundamental for sustaining democracy in Nigeria.


In his presentation, Dr Tobi Oluwatola of Premium Times advocated Membership Revenue Model to expand resources of media organizations.


According to Dr Oluwatola, fans and friends of media stations should be encouraged to become participants and stakeholders by contributing their time, energy, ideas and money to further a course because they believe in it.


Another resource person, Mr. Omotayo Suleiman said with the prevailing difficult and depressed business environment in Nigeria, media organizations should cooperate and collaborate to achieve the desired goals while remaining focused to meet the demands of the twenty first century.


In her contribution, Mrs. Toun Sonaiya of Women Radio Lagos, stressed the need to give women more responsibilities in media practice, noting that committed and dedicated women are valuable assets to the media industry.


Also speaking, Paul Ezeoke of the ABS, urged broadcast media organizations to establish stronger presence on social media platforms to explore opportunities of the digital age as well as harness inherent advantages of Community news to expand their audience spread and content preferences.
