Wife of the Governor of Anambra State and Founder of the NGO; Caring Family Enhancement Initiative, CAFE, Dr Ebelechukwu Obiano has visited the Oko Hospital where a-day-old baby girl, who survived serious laceration from barbed wire cuts, is recovering.
The baby, who was shown in video footage released by the ABS last week, was said to have been delivered by her teenage mother, a student of Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State, and was caught by barbed wires above a fence, after her mother had reportedly thrown her over.
The minute-long gory video clip had shown the baby dangling from a barbed-wired wall, said to be the resident of her teenage mother, while passersby were doing their best to bring her down safely.
The child, who has been nicknamed a “miracle baby” was then rushed to hospital near the school where doctors fought diligently to save her life.
Addressing the ABS while cuddling the baby, Dr Mrs. Obiano urged teenagers, who find themselves in such difficult circumstance to always leave their babies in open spaces where they can easily be located and picked up by people or authorities, instead of resorting to desperate and extreme measures.
She noted that her visit and the miracles surrounding the survival of the child which coincided with the commemoration of the sixth year of her husband’s administration as a governor, meant well for an Anambra State driving on a pathway of history.
The Governor’s wife also applauded the selfless action of the hospital which placed the survival of the baby over every other consideration.
The Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr Vincent Okpala, who was also present at the hospital, said that the Governor’s wife had exemplified another deep passion for good deeds, adding that the present health insurance scheme provided by the Anambra State Government has made both antenatal and prenatal demands easy and accessible.
On his part, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Indigenous Medicine and Herbal Practices, Dr Onyeka Ibezim, who described the story of the little girl as a miracle, commended the doctors at the hospital for giving her the best of their medical expertise.
The member representing Orumba North at the State House of Assembly, Honourable Emeka Aforka and other government officials were also in the governor’s wife’s retinues to the visit.
The Governor’s wife also presented cash and a variety of baby care products to the baby.
