Women have been encouraged to speak out on issues concerning abuse or violation of any sort.
This was the core of Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ Anambra State chapter paid a courtesy call on the Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Professor Charles Esimone in preparation of the forth coming NAWOJ State Convention Conference in May, 2020.
Onyinye Agubaeze reports that the state Chairman of NAWOJ, and Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media, Mrs Stella Igboka in a speech, said that the primary aim of the Association is to promote professionalism in women especially those in the journalism sector.
Mrs Igboka congratulated Professor Esimone on his first convocation outing as a Vice Chancellor, commending his efforts in making sure women are duly involved in the administrative affairs of the institution.
In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Esimone comnnended the efforts of the organisation and assured of his support.
He however stressed the need for women in the society to be more enlightened, especially the younger generation, to empower them to persistently voice out their feelings and resist any form of abuse and violation.
He advised women to speak out when they are abused as they are important to the growth of the society and need to be mentally stable, adding that enlightenment programs will encourage the younger generation to be bold.
In a vote of thanks, a National Officer of NAWOJ, Mrs Ify Obi, thanked the V.C for his support and for being media friendly.
Amongst those in attendance were one of the Deputy Directors of News and Current Affairs Department, in Anambra Broadcasting Service, Ebele Ezeh, the Managing Director of Kpakpando F.M and first female National Treasurer of NUJ, Monic Okechukwu, Controller Radio Nigeria, Mrs Pamela Igwe, amongst others.
