The Anambra State House of Assembly has passed a resolution urging Governor Willie Obiano to re-introduce Sports Competition in both Primary and Secondary Schools across the State.
House of Assembly Correspondent, Chukwuemeka Modilim reports that the House passed the resolution following a motion sponsored to that effect by the member representing Anaocha Constituency Two, Honourable Ejike Okechukwu during yesterday’s plenary in Awka which was conducted in Igbo language.
Expressing worry that Inter School Sports Competition has been relegated to the background, Honourable Okechukwu maintained that re-introduction of school sports competition in Primary and Secondary Schools will ensure Education towards complete development of mankind.
On his part, the member representing Nnewi South Constituency One, Honourable Sunny Ozobialu stressed the need for the State Government to compel private schools to map out play grounds for their pupils and students to re-introduce school sports competition to enable the students re-discover their sporting talents, just as the member representing Anambra West Constituency, Honourable Patrick Udeoba noted that sports motivates children, especially those in hard to reach areas to go to school.
The Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Uche Okafor described sports as a unifying factor, nothing that if the motion is implemented it will enable Anambra State re-discover sporting talents that can represent it at both National and International competitions.
