Mother’s in Anglican Communion today mark mothers Sunday globally.
The day was set aside to celebrate mothers for their roles in family, church and the society.


Mothers Sunday in Anglican Communion is unique and special as mothers took time to prepare, visit and pay homage to hospitals, correctional centres, old people’s homes, schools among others.


Husbands, Children and relations use to shower gift to their mother’s as a way of showing them love, care and concern.


Speaking on the significant of the day, the President, Mother’s Union, Women’s and Girls’ Guild, Province of The Niger, Mrs Martha Ibezim said mothers Sunday as a Christian feast is an occasion in which mothers are being honoured and reminded of their roles, nothing that motherhood is a selfless vocation.


Mrs Ibezim who is the wife of the Archbishop Ecclesiastical Province of The Niger and Bishop of Awka Diocese, maintained that family is a center of God’s creation and the fabric of the society therefore, mother’s should monitor activities in their homes to maintain a Godly home and as well raise children that will have the knowledge and fear of God.


She lamented the high increase of divorce in the society advising husbands to love their wives while wives should be humble and respectful to their husbands even as she condemned all forms of same sex marriage and called for efforts to ensuring a gender balance world.


On her part, the Dean of Social Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Professor Stella Okunna said mothers are so important in the family life and society, stating that the day is to draw attention, caution and advise women on their short comings and as well appreciate them.


Professor Okunna disclosed that mothers have indispensable roles to play in nation building saying that any society that does not recognise the role of women cannot progress, advising them to be hardworking and assist their husbands in family up keep Services will be held in Anglican churches to mark the day, where mothers will play key roles during the church service.
