It is no longer in doubt that Coronavirus is real. However, what is still in doubt is when solution to the pandemic will be found. It is obvious though that researchers, scientists and healthcare givers all over the world are not resting on their oars towards eradicating the pandemic on the surface of the earth. However, to be careful is not cowardice. Hence, the only known solution to the disease is vigilance, carefulness, self discipline, hygienic lifestyle and obedience to government directives.

Suffice it to say that both the Anambra state and federal governments through the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control NCDC have directed regular washing of hands with soap for 20 seconds each time and then allow the hands to dry. We must also use sanitizers regularly and stop shaking hands, hugs and kisses.

Every resident of Anambra should obey other Anambra state government coronavirus advisory and directives by avoiding public gatherings. Anambra state government has banned funerals, wedding receptions, traditional marriages, community festivals and so on. Government warns that Ndi Igwe and Presidents-General of Anambra communities that disobey the directive will be held responsible.

The ban on nite clubs, bars and restaurants is still in place as well as restrictions on passenger numbers for tricycles, shuttle and commercial buses. No Keke or tricycle rider should carry more than two passengers at a time.  Drivers of shuttle buses must not carry more than 3 passengers. Drivers of township and mini buses must not carry more than 5 passengers at a time.

Anambra boundary closures came into effect yesterday, Monday, March, 30, 2020. Everybody should please stay at home. Coronavirus is real; stay safe and stay alive. Only vehicles carrying food items and medicines will be allowed passage. All markets in Anambra state are closed from yesterday too. Only shops selling food items and medicines are authorized to remain open.

Anambra state government, as part of its preparations to stop the spread of Coronavirus, set up a COVID-19 Action Committee with Governor Willie Obiano as Chairman. It has equally designated 3 isolation centres and surge centre. The centres are Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku-Awka; Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, Nnewi and Onitsha General Hospital. There is also a 300-bed surge facility at Mbaukwu and trained medical personnel in collaboration with Nigeria Centre For Disease Control on Coronavirus medical protocols.

Furthermore, Anambra state government has taken delivery of key medical equipment and supplies for the state Coronavirus isolation centres. The items include hospital beds and drawers, oxygen concentrator, electric suction, patient monitor, personal protective equipment for care givers, including protective masks, hand gloves and so on.

Few days ago, Akpokuedike announced the distribution of free bags of rice to persons that are 70 years and above in the state. The Presidents-General and Ndigwe are to urgently submit their respective communities’ lists to the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters.

Consequently, Anambra state government is appealing to Ndi Anambra and companies operating in the state to support its efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the state. This is the practice the world over.

Meanwhile, Ndi Anambra appreciate Dr Clem Nwogbo, Chairman of M-P Infrastructure Limited, promoters of Awka Millennium City for donating five five million naira and Dr. Ernest Obiejesi of Obijackson Group, who donated  four thousand facial masks and 200 protective clothing for care givers. More donations and support are being awaited.
