Anambra State Government’s measure aimed at containing the Corona-virus pandemic is receiving a boost with the inauguration of Orumba South Local Government Area Covid-19 Intervention Team.


The team, which has the Member representing Orumba South Constituency at the Anambra State House of Assembly, Honourable Emma Nwafor as Chairman, the Transition Committee Chairman for Orumba South Local Government Area, Chief Raymond Onyegu, as the Deputy Chairman, among other professionals, has a responsibility of ensuring that government’s directives on ways of containing the pandemic are strictly observed in the area.


While speaking at the event, the Transition Committee Chairman for Orumba South Local Government, Chief Onyegu, who gave a statistical account of deaths associated with similar pandemic, including the Spanish Flu of 1918 to 1920, said public health has to do with prevention of sicknesses, hence the need to prevent spread of the Corona-virus.


Earlier, Chief Onyegu, in company of security agencies and officers and Men of the Federal Road Safety Corp, had visited Ihite, Akawa Nnato and Okanachi, boundary communities between Anambra, Abia and Imo States, where he warned youths who were reportedly extorting money from passers-by, in the guise of enforcing inter-State boarder closure, to stop usurping the duties of security agencies.


The Council Chairman equally went round various Markets in the area, prevailing on people to observe the State Government’s directive on stay at home, and made it clear that Markets, except those that deal on essential commodities should be closed.


Chief Onyegu, who emphasized that Ndigbo travel a lot in the course of doing businesses, commended all proactive measures taken by the State Government in the wake of widespread transmission of the Corona-virus.


A Medical Officer at All Saints Specialist Hospital, Umunze and member of Covid-19 Intervention Team in the area, Mr. Chukwudi Okoli, explained that knowledge about the Corona-virus is still incomprehensive, urging people to observe personal and environmental hygiene at all times, as adequate sensitization has been made on the pandemic.


Contributing, the Special Assistant to Governor Willie Obiano on Project Management and Monitoring, Mr. Obinna Nwankwo, said the newly inaugurated Convid-19 Team is an extension of the State Government’s preventive measures, calling on members of the team to be alive to their responsibilities.


Buckets for hand-washing, as well as sanitizer gels were distributed to all Health Centres and Palaces in the fifteen Communities of the area.
