The Speaker Anambra State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Uchenna Okafor says the sit at home order and closure of Markets by the government is aimed at saving the lives of the people.
He stated this on ABS Radio audience participatory programme Nzuko Anambra in Awka.
Right Honourable Okafor regretted the difficulty the people might be passing through due to the partial lock down, occasioned by closure of Markets and Institutions, which he said is precautionary to ensure that the Corona-virus pandemic does not enter the State.
He remarked that though the House of Assembly is on break, due to the Corona-virus pandemic, Members of the House have individually supported their Constituencies in fighting the pandemic through various measures within their capacity, as they are also ready for any emergency plenary for the necessity of making important decisions for the state in synergy with other arms of government.
The State number one lawmaker expressed worry over the sudden hike in price of food items, urging the traders not to see the lock down as an advantage to make profits, as such is inhuman.
He commended the Anambra State government for its economic stimulus packages in helping the people to cushion the effect of the lock down assuring that more packages are on the way should the lock down lingers.
Hi
Some callers to the programme, including John from Germany and another John from Isuofia among others, commended the government for its measures but noted that more still need to be done.
