The Government of Anambra State will soon commence distribution of three million face masks to the one hundred and eighty one communities in the state, as a means of sustaining the negative – case – status of coronavirus in the state.
Governor Willie Obiano who made the announcement in a statewide broadcast at his Country home Aguleri, stressed that there is no single positive case of the virus in the State.
According to the Governor who made the broadcast shortly after a meeting with the Anambra COVID-19 Committee, the stay at home directive is still in force, adding that the intervention is to ensure that everyone walking thr streets of the state wears a face mask.
The Governor disclosed that ten samples have so far been sent out for testing out of which six have returned negative, adding that 250 bedroom isolation center has been set up at Mbaukwu/Umuawulu as well as 15-bed Isolation center at Onitsha and expressed optimism of maintaining zero record of the virus in the State.
He enumerated his administration’s economic stimulus packages to cushion the effect of the pandemic to include distribution of bags of rice to the elderly from seventy years of age, tax reduction for traders and business owners , among others and announced a two month tax waiver for keke and shuttle buses operators, for the months of April and May 2020.
The Governor stated that special classrooms called Anambra Teaching On Air has been introduced me on Anambra Broadcasting Service Radio and Television, asking students to tune in or visit www.absradiotv.co to participate, while urging everyone to remain calm and adhere to safety standard measures and directives put out against the virus.
The Governor commended the churches, essential service providers, civil societies and donors of cash and materials for their support during this period and requestef for more donations.
