The member representing Orumba North Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Chief Emeka Aforka, has commenced sensitization campaign and distribution of Coronavirus preventive and protective materials to the people of Orumba North Local Government Area, in line with the directives of Governor Willie Obiano to prevent the pandemic from entering the State.
While addressing his constituents at the Amaokpala Health Centre, Chief Aforka said the programme became more imperative given growing statistics on deaths associated with the pandemic in parts of the world.
The Lawmaker, called on community, religious, political and market leaders in the area to assist in driving the message to the grassroots.
He commended Governor Willie Obiano for equipping Coronavirus Protection Centres in the State, and for providing economic stimulus packages for Ndi-Anambra, which he promised to domesticate in his Constituency.
In their separate explanations, Doctors Somadina Okeke, Ogonna Okeke, as well as Chidi Otti, who were all indigenes of Orumba North, said Covid-19 is a serious threat to mankind, as it presents little or no symptoms at early stage, adding that HIV, Tuberculosis, Pneumonia, Cancer patients, smokers and drunkards do not usually survive the virus due to low immune system.
In their remarks, the traditional rulers of Oko, Igwe Professor Laz Ekwueme, and his Ndiokpalaeze counterpart, Igwe Chidozie Okoli, commended the Lamaker , who was accompanied to the event by his wife, Mrs Lilian for championing the interest of his constituents, urging people to observe all outlined preventive measures by the government.
Chief Aforka later visited some markets in the area to further sensitize traders and advised food sellers not to use the opportunity to increase the price of commodities, but to join hands in fighting the pandemic.
Assorted buckets for hand-washing, soaps and sanitizer gells were distributed to markets and palaces in the area.
