The member representing Idemili South in the state House of Assembly, Honorable Chuka Ezenwune has distributed sanitary materials to all the communities as well as primary healthcare centers across the seven towns under his constituency.
This is directed towards assisting the state government in the fight against the spread of coronavirus that is currently ravaging the world.
Items distributed at the event, tagged “Covid-19 Idemili South Constituency Awareness Campaign” were hand sanitizers, buckets and soap for proper and effective hand washing practice, hand gloves and nose masks.
The event also featured health education by health experts with regards to basic information on coronavirus, including the symptoms, preventive measures and other practices that will boost healthy lifestyle.
Declaring it open at the local government secretariat Ojoto, the Transition Committee chairman, Idemili South Council Area, Mr. Don Unachukwu, who commended the exercise stressed that it will play a vital role in preventing the people of that area from being vulnerable to the pandemic.
In a remark, the member representing Idemili South in the state House of Assembly, Honorable Ezenwune, who noted that the current situation should be a source of worry to everyone and called on opinion and community leaders to intensify efforts on community sensitization with regards to basic preventive measures.
According to the Lawmaker, if total compliance is recorded on all the state government directives and policies on the virus, it will help to prevent a total lock down as witnessed in some countries and states like Lagos and Abuja.
While commending the Lawmaker for being proactive, the Idemili South Council Area Supervisor for Health, Mr. Chijioke Eruchalu assured of proper monitoring to ensure the materials are put to optimal use.
In their separate public lectures ,the Director, Environment and Sanitary Department, Idemili South Council Area, Lady Nkiru Nwokoye and the council’s Deputy Director, Nursing Services, Mrs. Francisca Ukpaka advocated for healthy food and water therapy practices as ways of building strong immune system.
The event climaxed with the handover of the materials to the community leaders and the heads of all the primary healthcare centers.
