As a measure to protect Ndi Anambra from contracting Coronavirus, the State government has among other measures, extended lock down of the State for another two weeks with effect from Saturday 11th April, 2020.
Governor Willie Obiano made the pronouncement during a statewide broadcast at his Country home, Aguleri.


Government House Correspondent, Ejike Abana reports that this is coming a day before the expiration of the two weeks shut down of the State by the State government.


Briefing newsmen shortly after a closed door deliberation with members of the State COVID-19 Action Committee, Governor Obiano who pointed out that the extension has become necessary as Anambra has recorded the first case of Coronavirus and disclosed that aggressive contact tracing has commenced.


The Governor, who urged the people not to panic, stated that security agencies in the State have been authorized to make arrests in case of any violation and called on people to stay indoors, but wear masks if they must come out, urging Ndi Anambra to adhere to all advisory and directives by stakeholders in the fight against COVID-19.


Governor Obiano announced that all neighbouring state boundaries should remain closed, adding that only vehicles delivering essential services are permitted after comprehensive check and authorization by security operatives at the boundaries.


He reminded Ndi Anambra of the need to maintain the six feet distancing with individuals when making a conversation, always wash their hands with soap and running water for at least twenty seconds, apply hand sanitizers, avoid hand shaking, hugging and all other forms of physical contact.


The Governor also reiterated the importance of minimizing contact with door handles and hand rails and commonly used surfaces.


While appreciating Ndi Anambra, traders, Presidents-General, Traditional Rulers and others who have helped in the fight, he said the protection centers in the State are among the best, asking people to continue to pray.
Governor Obiano, who wished Ndi Anambra a happy Easter, urged them to use the period which offers hope to mankind, to reach out to the vulnerable people around them.


While appreciating, all who has supported government individually and collectively in the fight against the virus, he appealed for more donors, especially in providing protection gears, among others and added that he has the assurances of Fidelity Bank and Access Bank to complete the ongoing protection centers in two weeks time.
