The Member representing Ogbaru Constituency Two in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Honorable Somtochukwu Udeze, has commenced the second phase of his reach-out programme by distributing food items worth millions of naira to his constituents.

The reach-out, according to the Lawmaker, is to cushion the economic effects of the ravaging Corona-virus lockdown in his constituency.

The distribution which took place at his compound in Atani, under strict observance of social distancing and hand washing, was also aimed at reducing hunger and give the people a sense of belonging.

Blessing Uchendu reports that items distributed by Honorable Udeze were different sizes of bags of rice, tubers of yam, bags of garri, cartons of noodles and tomato paste as well as other food items.

The Lawmaker engaged Traditional Rulers, Presidents-General, Chairmen of various communities and Woman Leaders in Ogbaru Constituency Two to deliver the items to selected indigent persons from twenty communities in Ogbaru constituency Two.

Addressing his constituents, Honourable Udeze explained that since the closure of Markets in the State and sit-at-home order occasioned by Corona-virus ravaging the International Community, some of his constituents, especially the poor finds it difficult to cope economically, hence the decision to share the food items to them.

He reminded his constituents that Corona-virus has claimed thousands of lives in many countries, with Anambra State having recorded one index case, and advised them to always carry out the State government’s directive to prevent the pandemic from spreading in the State.

Some representatives of the various communities who spoke to the ABS, including the traditional ruler of Atani, Igwe Augustine Azuka, represented by Chief Daniel Nwabueze, the President-General of Atani, Retired Colonel Paul Izukanne and Chairman Relief Distribution Committee, Mr Alphonsus Nwobi, noted that Honorable Udeze has met the most pressing needs of the vulnerable in his constituency, describing him as a leader who is sensitive to the plights of his constituents.

Contributing, the Administrative Secretary of the Anglican Diocese of Ogbaru, Reverend Canon Chigozie Obiwulu and Councilor representing Atani One in Ogbaru Local Government Area Transition Committee, Honorable Adaeze Chukwuma, commended Honorable Udeze for being proactive, and pledged to support the State government at this critical time through prayers and sensitization, urging others to emulate his exemplary leadership.
