Indigent people in Umuawulu community in Awka South Council Area, have received succour from an indigene of the community Chief Christopher Ndubuisi.
The distribution exercise took place at the residence of Chief Ndubuisi at Umuenu village Umuawulu.
Correspondent Ngozi Obileri reports that Items distributed to over three hundred people including men and women were five kilogrammes of rice each, tubers of yam and cartoons of noodles.
Speaking on behalf of Chief Ndubisi, the traditional ruler of Umuawulu , igwe Joel Egwuonwu, who acknowledged that the COVID-19 pandemic has brought about tough situation to everyone said that it is the duty of the affluent members of the society to show love to the less privileged ones among them.
He urged other well meaning citizens of the community to show love to indigent people now so that they don’t die of hunger, commending the state government for its rapid response so far.
Chief Ndubisi advised them to adhere strictly to the government’s directive so as to help stem the spread of the virus.
Speaking earlier, the President General of the community Chief Iyke Nkala cautioned against public gathering, and urged the people to obey the social distancing order, ensure they wash their hands regularly and sanitize their hands with alcohol based sanitizers and most importantly, stay at home especially this period of total lock down.
Some of the beneficiaries including Messrs Augustine Nwankwo and Martina Ezeh thanked their benefactor for the love he has been showing them, praying for more blessings upon him and his family.
