Sons and daughters of Awkuzu community in Oyi council area, both at home and in the Diaspora have commenced distribution of food items and cash to the less privileged in their community, to cushion the effects of the lockdown.

The food items, distributed to the fifty-two wards that make up the community, took place at Awkuzu Civic Center.
The items include one thousand, five hundred and sixty ten kg bags of rice, one hundred and four huge bags of beans and one thousand five hundred and sixty cartons of noodles.


The total sum of four point one million naira was equally disbursed to the elderly and widows in the community.
Performing the distribution , the traditional ruler of Awkuzu, Igwe Professor Charles Anikweze, said he initiated the project to complement the efforts of Governor Willie Obiano in making sure that Ndi Anambra does not suffer from imminent hunger during this period.

Igwe Anikweze, who thanked God for protecting Awkuzu community from the deadly scourge, appreciated his illustrious sons and daughters including his cabinet chiefs for their support and urged them to sustain it.

The Presidents General of the community, Chief Innocent Chialu, commended the true indigenous spirit of his people describing the gesture as unique and meritorious.


On his part, the Chairman, Procurement and Distribution Committee, Chief Godwin Ezeh and the Igwe’s cabinet minister for information, Chief John Akabueze enjoined all the ward leaders to ensure equitable distribution of the food items and cash devoid of bias.

Some of the beneficiaries, including Mr. Micheal Uyanwa and Mrs. Gloria Anene, expressed happiness over the magnanimity and kindness of the sons and daughters of Awkuzu community.
