Geanco Foundation in partnership with Anambra State governm6ent has concluded its first phase of a-three-day training for Traditional Birth Attendants and Primary Health Care workers on COVID-19 safety measures.
The training, which kicked off at Nawfia Primary Health Care center, Nawfia Njikoka, local government area, was also held at Orumba North and Ayemelum Local Government Areas.
Healthcare practitioners from the selected council areas were trained on basic knowledge of the global pandemic and effective ways of avoiding the new virus especially when taking care of infected person.
In his speech, the state Reproductive Health Coordinator Ministry of Health, Dr. Uju Okoye said participants were drawn from all the community Primary Healthcare centers across selected council areas including the Traditional Birth Attendance to enlighten them on COVID-19 pandemic to enable them maintain best practices in line with the WHO guild lines.
The Country Manager, Geanco Foundation, Miss Paschaline Nchedo-Chukwuka said since the health workers are usually in the forefront of the fight against the deadly Coronavirus, the training became imperative to ensure that they are constantly adhering to the laid down precautionary measures of best practices to avoid being victims of the virus while discharging their duties.
Miss Nchedo-Chukwuka observed that most of the community health centers are in short of the basic Personal Protective Equipment and called for donation of hand groves, sanitizers, hand washing materials, disinfectant, Mama’s kits among others and encouraged them to step-down the knowledge garnered to every nook and cranny of their various communities.
Some of the participants,including Mrs. Florence Chukwuma from Oby maternity Home, Umumbo, Ifedilichukwu Ndirika from St. Martins de Porres Maternity Nanka, Mrs. Felicia Ifedim from Mother of Peace Maternity Adazi Enu and Mrs. Gladys Ude thanked the organizers for the training which they said would help them promote personal hygiene and safety measures while attending to patients.
