Anambra State Government has held a one-day training of military and paramilitary officers in the state on COVID-19 Infection Prevention Control.
Speaking at the event, the Anambra State Commissioner for Health Dr. Vincent Okpala said the essence of the training for military and paramilitary in the state was for them to be knowledgeable about the pandemic.

He noted that the objectives of the training were for them to understand Infection Prevention Control (IPC) principles and practice, building healthcare workers confidence in the management of infectious disease cases, understanding epidemiology of COVID-19 and reduction of healthcare associated infectious diseases.

He noted that the facilitators were being trained by Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and World Health Organisation (WHO) as they are the people in the field.

The Commissioner praised Anambra State Government for its commitment towards ending COVID-19 in the state as well as making provisions for various training for health workers to combat the pandemic.
One of the facilitators and Director, Public Health, Dr. Uchechukwu Onyejimbe x-rayed the basics of COVID-19 and viruses and as well discussed community case definition of COVID-19.

State Epidemiologist, Dr Chijioke Obagha trained the participants on understanding disease transmission, using COVID-19 specific examples, introduction to IPC standard precautions, cleaning, laundry and healthcare waste management.

State Infection Prevention Control focal person, Dr Kenneth Nwokolo took them on preparedness and response to COVID-19.
Participants were drawn from medical services of the Army, Police, DSS, Navy, Federal Road Safety Corps, NDLEA, Correctional Services and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps.
