Nigerians have been urged to use the present challenge of COVID-19 to harness huge opportunities in the Agricultural sector.

Speaking to journalists in Awka, the state President of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Chief Damian Okeke-Ogene commended Governor Willie Obiano for initiating the Ugbo-Azu Uno Agricultural initiative which he noted would encourage every family to be actively involved in farming to achieve food security.

Chief Okeke-Ogene, who recalled that mass farming enabled many families to survive the civil war, noted that COVID-19 has created a war condition that demands all hands to be on deck, to survive the pandemic.

He observed that before the emergence of COVID-19, the Obiano administration had already repositioned and reinvented the state agricultural sector and attracted huge investments that commendably increased the state rice production capacity and empowered low income farmers in cultivation of other crops and livestock farming.

Chief Okeke-Ogene urged youths to be actively involved in various agricultural activities and technical skills to become self reliant.
He tasked northern leaders to be alive to their responsibilities by effectively empowering children and youths with knowledge and skills to reduce their burden on the society.
