The facility which was inaugurated by Governor Willie Obiano will service three Communities in Anambra East including Aguleri, Umueri and Umu-Oba Anam.

The Governor said that in order to protect the project, a Facility Manager has been appointed for maintenance and services, stating that individuals building new houses and have interest in connecting water to their homes should do so, but with the permission of the Ministry of Public Utilities and Water Resources.

In his remarks, the Commissioner for Public Utilities and Water Resources, Mr Emeka Ezenwanne, who described the project as historic noted that time for delivering the project is apt as the world is battling with the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Transition Committee Chairman for Anambra East Local Government Area, Mr Obi Nweke who appreciated the Governor for the laudable project in the local government, expressed optimism that apart from the three communities, water will get to other towns in the local government area.

The Commissioner for Works, Mr Marcel Ifejiofor, traditional rulers of the three communities, among others were present at the ceremony.
Recall that when he inspected the project on twenty-fourth January 2020, Governor Obiano gave an assurance that the facility will become functional in April 2020.

The project which was jointly executed by the European Union and the Anambra State government, sources water from the Omambala river and has the capacity to treat ten million liters of water daily.
From the Omambala river, the water is pumped to the Water tank in Otuocha, from where it is being reticulated.
