The Anambra State House of Assembly has passed a resolution urging Governor Willie Obiano to direct the Commissioner for Health to as a matter of urgency rebuild the perimeter fences that fell in the school of Nursing and Midwifery Nkpor in order to beef up security within the school environment.
The House passed the resolution following a motion sponsored to that effect by the member representing Aguata One Constituency, Dr. Carter Umeh during plenary.
Chukwuemeka Modilim reports that while explaining the motion, Dr Umeh said that the fallen perimeter fences have become a route through which hoodlums gain access to the school environs thereby giving rise to stealing and carting away of belongings of the students.
Dr Umeh who is also the Chairman House Committee on Health maintained that if these fallen perimeter fences were not rebuit urgently, the rate of crime and felony against the students, especially the female ones ,could rise to an unbearable state and could lead to molestation and harassment of some students.
On his part, the member representing Anaocha Two Constituency and Chairman House Committee on Basic Education, Honourable Ejike Okechukwu noted that the situation has instilled fear in the students who live within the school premises as they no longer concentrate on their studies and urged the Executive Arm of government to do the needful so that the students will feel comfortable to study there.
In his contribution, the member representing Ihiala One Constituency, Honourable Chidi Udemmadu expressed confidence that when the fallen perimeter fences are rebuilt , the security of lives and property within the institution will be enhanced and will keep the students in a good state of mind for their learning.
Speaker of the House, Right Honourable Uche Okafor described the motion as apt and read out the resolution of the House, while the Lawmakers supported it through a voice vote
