As part of efforts to ensure food sufficiency in Anambra State at post
Covid-19 pandemic era, government through the Ministry of Agriculture,
Mechanization, Processing and Export is to rehabilitate and engage over
twenty tractors this farming season.
The Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Dr Nkem Okeke disclosed this
shortly after inspecting some broken down tractors at the State
Ministry of Agriculture, Mechanization, Processing and Export, as well
as Awkuzu Tractor Base.
Dr Okeke who explained that the tractors are to be repaired in no
distance time so as to be deployed to this year’s farming season,
expressed the hope that with the tractors, the State will have enough
food for both consumption and export.
He disclosed that the ones that are beyond repairs will be replaced by
the State government and advised those in charge of the rehabilitation
of the machines to judiciously use the fund that was allocated for the
purpose.
Responding, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Farm Implements and
Mechanization, Mr Paul Nwosu, assured that the allocations for the
machines repair will be properly utilized, noting that with the
tractors, there will be a great boost in the agricultural sector in
the State.
Government House Correspondent Emmanuel Okonkwo reports that Anambra State stands the chance of becoming a reference point in food security in Nigeria in 2021, if the State government would rehabilitate, and
properly engage the over twenty tractors this farming season.
