The Bishop Methodist Diocese of Onitsha, Right Reverend Livinus Onuagha has urged government at all levels to uphold its primary function of protecting the lives and property of the citizens.
Bishop Onuagha stated this while presenting his address to the eighteenth Annual Synod of the Diocese held at Saint Andrew Cathedral Awada with the theme “Here I Am, Send Me”.
Bishop Onuagha said that God need to see spirit filled and faithful men and women who are willing to stand before Him in prayer, teach His word, and build His kingdom, to accomplish His will and purpose on earth.
He enjoined Christians to take a leaf from prophet Isaiah whom he said without hesitation answered God’s call.
The Bishop charged church leaders to be focused on building a church that will be controlled by the Holy Spirit, stressing that any church without the Holy Spirit is a mere social centre that would dispel rather than attract genuine worshipers.
Speaking on the COVID-19 pandemic, Bishop Onuagha said the supremacy of God was purely displayed as wealth and money failed, both the rich and the poor were placed under house arrest as the world fights the deadly virus.
He commended Governor Willie Obiano for the proactive measures put in place to combat the spread of COVID-19 and its effects especially the Ugbo Azu Uno Initiative which he said would help maintain food security during and after the pandemic.
He also commended all relevant bodies on the frontline in the fight against the COVID-19 as he sympathized with families who lost their loved ones to the virus.
Speaking to the ABS in an interview, the Synod Secretary, Very Reverend Ejike Onwueringo expressed satisfaction with the success of the Synod which was conducted under strict observance of W.H.O protective measures and charged Christians to commit themselves to the service of God and humanity.
In their separate speeches, the Lay President, Sir Onyekachi Nwaulo and a Group Head Dr Ogechi Umeh charged Christians to put their trust and faith in God who never fail his people.
Members were spotted washing and sanitizing their hands with their face mask on before entering the church hall while observing physical distancing as directed by the state government.
