Fuel stations in the state are yet to comply with the recent directive
on pump prize by the federal government.
This was discovered when the ABS visited some petrol stations within
Awka and its environs to ascertain fuel dealer’s compliance with the
directive.
During the monitoring exercise, ABS observed that fuel stations are
still selling at the old price of one hundred and twenty-five naira,
as against the recent one hundred and twenty-one naira, fifty kobo the
federal government directed that fuel should be sold across the
country this period.
A Tricyclist that spoke to ABS at one of the petrol stations visited, Mr Nzedibe Nwigboji who described the recent directive as a welcomed
development, regretted that fuel dealers are yet to comply with the
order, as according to him their compliance will help in cushioning
the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on transporters, and as well help
them save more money for their families’ upkeep.
For another patroniser, Mr Onyemaechi Abonyi, fuel dealers compliance
with the recent directive on pump prize will not only benefit those in
transport business, but also their customers as there will be
reduction in transportation fare.
Mr Abonyi called on Department of Petroleum Resources, DPR, to do the
needful in enforcing compliance of the fuel dealers with the recent
price order, for the good of the masses.
Efforts to speak with petrol station managers, and the state Director of
the Department of Petroleum Resources as at the time of this report
proved abortive.
