Following a distress call, police operatives attached to Neni Division in collaboration with Nri vigilant group, have arrested four robbery suspects, who specialize in snatching motorcycles along Nri-Neni axis.
They also recovered a motorcycle with registration number NSK 426 QJ and phone allegedly snatched from the victim,Mr Nnamdi Egbebe,after removing part of his right ear with a knife.
The suspects are Francis Ezeibekwe,aged 22, from Ikenga village,Adazi Ani,Ndubisi Kaliozor,aged 20, from Agbama village,Nri, Chibuzor Ugoji,aged 19,of Uruofolo village ,Nri, and Elochukwu Anyaoke,aged 29, from Umuowelle village,Nri.
They were arrested in their hideouts inside the bush at Nri by Neni in Anaocha Local government area.
Addressing the press, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra state command,CP John Abang, said the case is under investigation after which the suspects will be charged to court.
Speaking through the State Police Public Relations Officer,Mr Haruna Mohammed,CP Abang urged motorcycle and tricycle riders in the state, to be wary of such syndicate in order not to fall victims.
In an interview, the chairman Anambra state Vigilant Group,Nri Unit,Mr Mark Okonkwo, explained how he received a distress call and alerted the DPO, Uche Asadu,in charge of the Divisional Police Headquarters,Neni, and they carried out the joint operation which led to the arrest of the alleged armed robbers.
Also speaking with the ABS, the victim,Mr Egbebe, narrated how he was doing his work as a motorcyclist on Sunday,when he was robbed of his motorcycle by his supposed passanger in the company of members of his gang.
He revealed that his cry for help attracted the vigilant group who came to his rescue.
