The Nnamdi Azikiwe University Medical Alumni Association United Kingdom and Ireland has donated Personal Protective Equipment Kits to its alma-mater, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, Nnewi, NAUTH to support fight against Coronavirus
The kits which were meant for the health workers of the institution was to ensure their safety especially now the deadly coronavirus is ravaging the whole world and also to encourage them to offer the best of health services to their patients.
The Items donated include, five hundred pieces of standard face masks, one hundred pieces of international standard fluid repellent “hazmat” suits, ten cartons of protective hand gloves and one carton of standard surgical masks.
Presenting the items in Nnewi on behalf of the President Unizik Medics Alumni Association, UK and Ireland, Dr. Chinenye Ekpeh, the National President, Unizik Medics Alumni, Dr. Evaristus Afiadigwe commended the commitment and concerted efforts of the government at all levels, health workers, individuals, corporate bodies and other relevant agencies to mitigate the effects and stem the spread of the virus.
He noted, that while disease control measures are being implemented, there is also the need to protect their colleagues and provide the front-line health workers with the adequate protective equipment and emphasized the importance of collaborative approach.g
Receiving the items, the Chief Medical Director, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital Nnewi, Professor, Anthony Igwegbe thanked the Association for the generous and timely donation which he said will contribute immensely towards assisting the institution in offering excellent and effective medical services to their patients.
He described the efforts by the state government and the health workers in the state as commendable, assuring of greater commitment to the healthcare delivery and judicious disbursement of the PPE kits.
Those that witnessed the presentation include, the National Secretary of the Association, Dr. Joseph Ugboaja who is also the Chairman Medical Advisory Committee CMAC, of NAUTH, the Director of Administration, NAUTH Mrs Chinyere Nwofor, among others.
