The Nigeria Labour Congress, Anambra State Chapter has inaugurated a
twelve man team of Labour- Civil Society Situation Room on COVID-19 to
carry the campaign of the pandemic closer to the people.
The inauguration took place at the National Union of Local Government
Employees, NULGE Headquarters in Awka.

Labour- Civil Society Situation Room on COVID-19 is a one stop shop of
reports on efforts to contain the spread of Covid-19 by all trade
unions, public spirited individuals and the press, among others
The Situation Room was initiated by the national leadership of Nigeria
Labour Congress who directed all state councils to replicate same in
their various states to help in promoting sensitization campaign
against COVID-19 and assess its impacts on the society.

In his speech, the state Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress who also
doubles as the Chairman of the team, Comrade Jerry Nnubia commended
the efforts and measures put in place by the state government in
containing the spread of the virus and explained that the team is
structured in a way to help in the fight against COVID-19.
Comrade Nnubia pointed out that while the world await for a vaccine,
the Situation Room serves as an engine room for information
dissemination and sensitization of workers and citizens on the
pandemic and also partner relevant stakeholders in the state to
achieve it’s set objectives.

He highlighted the objective to includes protection of jobs, wages
and means of livelihood of members, maintain feedback, engage
government on how best to open up the economy as well as serve as a
think tank to liaise and advice government among others.

Comrade Nnubia appealed to all trade unions to utilize all the
opportunities of the situation Room to achieve collective objective.

In his remarks, the state chairman of the Civil Society Network and
also the Secretary of the team, Prince Chris Azor call for all hands
to be on deck in making the needed change and support the government
to fight the pandemic.
