The Anambra Civil Society Network has continued with their visits to
more rural markets, to create awareness about COVID-19 and the new
“Anambra COVID-19 and other dangerous diseases prevention and
eradication Law”.

Markets visited by the group are Eke Enugwu-Agidi in Njikoka Local
Government Area and Eke Nibo in Awka South Local Government Area.

David Okpokwasili reports that Governor Willie Obiano had signed the new Law last month to provide a legal framework to the protocols seeking to contain the global pandemic in the State.

At the two markets visited, ABS observed that both traders and their
patronizers are aware of the new disease and the public health safety
directives by the Anambra State Government, the Nigerian Centre for
Disease Control and the World Health Organization to reduce its
spread.

These were shown in their responses to the questions asked on basic
principles in hand washing.

However, it was observed that only a few of them obey the compulsory
wearing of facemasks while water taps were almost absent.

Speaking at both markets, the Chairman of the Civil Society Network,
Prince Chris Azor, emphasized the need for everyone to live in these
times with caution, paying serious attention to the COVID -19 preventive measures to ensure that the disease does not spread
like it is doing in other climes.

The Vice Chairperson of the group, Mrs Faustina Igbansi, Director
News and Current Affairs Department of the ABS, who is also the Media
Director of the group, Mr Gab Okpalaeze and the Secretary of the
group, Barrister Chisom Chude also took time to highlight the new Anambra COVID-19 Law to the rural dwellers to understand
the contents of the Law.
