A University Don, Dr. Emma Ezenwaji of the department of geography and Meteorology, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka has called on people living in flood-prone communities along the banks of the river Niger to make haste to relocate to safer grounds to avoid the menace of the anticipated flooding this year.

Speaking on the maiden edition of ABS Radio Programme, “Issues” Dr. Ezeanwaji said that there is no need to be adamant or doubtful about the flood as there are strong indications that it is set to happen.
Dr. Ezenwaji called for the development of flood map for Awka Capital City in order to stem the heavy flooding which occurs during rains to avoid possible damage to lives and property.
In his contribution, another quest on the performance, Venerable David Obiagboso, called on well meaning members of the public and non-governmental organizations to support government in cushioning the effects of flooding on the communities through the provision of settlement camps, food items and other support services.
A caller from Ogbaru, Barrister Ike, disclosed that some potential victims of the flooding have refused to heed the alarm because, according to them, subsequent alarm and warnings after the 2012 flooding did not happen and requested the state government to device a means to convince the doubting citizen to adjust to the reality of the time while another caller, Reverend Cannon Ojonokpe of Mbamili Anglican Diocese commended the sponsors of the programme, on the society for equity, Justice and Peace.
