The federal government says it is leaving no stone unturned in
ensuring that women have access to modern contraceptives amidst the
ongoing COVID 19 lockdown.

The Director, Reproductive Health Unit, Federal Ministry of Health, Dr
Kayode Afolabi, said this during a Media parley via a Webinar
conference organised by the Network of Reproductive Health Journalists
of Nigeria, NRHJN, in collaboration with Marie Stopes International
Organization, MSION.

Dr Afolabi speaking on the topic, “Sustaining Family Planning and
Sexual Reproductive Health service delivery amidst COVID 19, said the
federal government is working tirelessly to ensure that maternity
units have isolation centres equipped for delivery.

He also pointed out that the government is strengthening
community-based Family planning programmes which would ensure that
Family Planning clients receive services and commodities within their
communities.

In her comments, the Country Director, Marie Stopes International
Organization, MSION, Mr Effiom Nyong, revealed that no fewer than
nineteen thousand, seven hundred and eighty one child deaths and three
thousand, nine hundred and sixty eight maternal deaths have been
prevented by the organization during the lockdown necessitated by
COVID 19.

He said this was made possible through their efforts in continually
providing sexual and reproductive health services across Nigeria,
inspite of the lockdown.

Reiterating the determination of MSION to promote family planning
among Nigerians, Mr Nyong Effiom, said the organization would continue
to take services to the women closer to their homes using their
out-post service delivery strategy.

He charged members of the Network of Reproductive Health Journalists
of Nigeria not to relent until the much desired message on sexual and
reproductive health rights get to the grassroots.

reports that the Webinar conference attracted nearly two hundred
participants from within and outside Nigeria.
