As the International Community observes today as widow’s day, the
Member representing Nnewi North Constituency at the Anambra State
House of Assembly, Honourable Nonso Smart-Okafor has regretted that
many widows suffer injustice in the hands of husbands’ relatives
especially when they do not have male children.

The Law maker who is the House Committee Chairman on Gender and
Children Affairs, canvassed for laws that will promote widow’s right.
For the Director, Women Affairs Department in the Ministry of Women
and Children Affairs, Mrs Hope Ekesiobi, Anambra State through the
Ministry is addressing the plights of widow’s noting that the State
has built acquisition centers in the three Senatorial Districts where
some widows who are vulnerable will learn skills to become self
reliant.

The Parish Priest of Saint Mary’s Catholic Parish, Ezira, in Orumba
South Local Government Area, Reverend Father Nicholas Okekeocha said
that the Church has special interest in widows by ensuring that they
obtain justice and equity.
For Mrs Caroline Onwuzulike widowhood is not an easy task and
advocated programmes and policies to end violence against widows and
their children.
