In furtherance of its commitment to the war against COVID-19 pandemic,
Anambra State government is set to increase capacity in sample
collection and local testing in the twenty-one local government areas
of the State.

To this end, the government in collaboration with the World Health
Organization and Nigeria Centre for Disease Control has trained
forty-two medical personnel as sample collectors for COVID-19.
The training which took place in Awka was aimed at equipping the
personnel with requisite skills for sample collection at the
grassroots.

Speaking at the training session, the Anambra State Commissioner for
Health, Dr Vincent Okpala said that building capacity in local testing
remains the highest priority of the administration in the battle
against Coronavirus.

He noted that series of collaborative work are ongoing with the
Nigeria Centre for Disease Control to ensure its effectiveness within
the week.

Recall that Governor Willie Obiano who is heading the State’s COVID-19
task force, recently announced the establishment of COVID-19 task
forces in the twenty-one local government areas and three hundred and
twenty-six wards in the State.
It is expected that the sample collectors will compliment the work of
the Local Government Areas and ward COVID-19 task forces and help
strengthen the surveillance system that has been put in place by the
State.
