Anambra State Waste Management Authority-ASWAMA has called for
collective efforts to sustain the State government’s tree planting
campaign.
The Managing Director of the Authority, Mr Amechi Akora made the call
while inspecting the new trees planted at the Dr Alex Ekwueme square
in Awka by the Agency.
Paul Ezeoke was there and reports that Mr Akora expressed satisfaction that sixty per cent of the new trees are doing very well while those that had shock and are struggling to survive were being replaced.
He said necessary measures have been put in place for close
monitoring, nurturing and protection of the trees to achieve the
desired goals of protecting the environment and the Ozone layer.
The Managing Director of ASWAMA, reminded the State residents of the
need to avoid indiscriminate dumping of refuse and made it clear that
the State taskforce on proper Waste Disposals will arrest and
prosecute anybody caught violating the law in the sanitation court to
serve as deterrent to others.
Mr Akora also cautioned against burning Wastes at any point as it
poses great health risk to the public and restated people should bag,
tie, dispose their waste in designated sites for proper evacuation by
ASWAMA.
Meanwhile, stakeholders in the State have been urged to support the
present drive by the Obiano administration to entrench template for
sustainable and protect the future of the State.
In an interview, an APGA Chieftain, Dr Mike Omenugha said that the
administration’s interventions and initiatives have transformed and
repositioned many sectors with commendable results.
Dr Omenugha said the outstanding performances of Anambra students,
teachers and schools in national and international competitions are
clear testimonies and demonstration of excellence and consistency and
commended Governor Willie Obiano for his decision to honour the two
Anambra born top 2020 JAMB scores, noting that it would not only
motivate the students but would also inspire others towards
excellence.
He urged privileged individuals and communities to institute
scholarship schemes that will enable less privileged pupils and
students attain their full potential in life.
