Governor Willie Obiano has laid the foundation stone for a Medical Oxygen Gas Production Plant in the State.

The ground breaking ceremony took place at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku-Awka where the project will be sited.
The facility which is the first of its kind in the Country in terms of capacity, is expected to produce 208 Forty litre Cylinders of Oxygen Gas on daily basis.
Performing the function,  Governor Obiano explained that his government is embarking on the project because of the critical role Oxygen Gas plays in the entire Health Management System and due to the absence of such plant in the entire State.
Governor Obiano who maintained that health remains a key enabler for his administration, assured that the project will be completed before Christmas.

He revealed the readiness of his administration to continue to engage in gainful ventures in the Health Sector that will impact positively on the lives of the people.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr Josephat Akabuike who described the facility as a major boost to the State Health Management System,  said when completed, the Teaching Hospital will serve as a depot from where Oxygen will be distributed to all hospitals in the State.
On his part, the Chief Medical Director of the Hospital, Dr Lawrence Ikeakor said the hospital has benefited immensely from the present administration’s interventions in the Health sector and said with the location of the plant,  its impact will be massive.
Laying of the foundation stone and unveiling of a plaque to commemorate the event formed the Highpoints.
