The Panel of Inquiry into the land dispute at Ifite-Nteje in Oyi Local
Government Area, has organized a meeting with members of the community as part of efforts geared towards peaceful settlement of the matter.

The meeting which was held at Government House, Awka, attracted both
stakeholders and other members of the community who were given
opportunity to air their views and also ask questions concerning the
land dispute.

Government House Correspondent, Emmanuel Okonkwo reports that during the meeting, members of the community, including the
Traditional Ruler of Nteje, Igwe Roland Odegbo, who had submitted
memorandum to the panel swore to an oath that information submitted
was the truth.

In his speech, the Chairman of the Panel and Managing Director, Anambra
state Fire Service, Retired Air Vice – Marshal Ben Chiobi, reminded
the people of the need to supply the Panel with facts that will enable it
conclude it’s assignment in record time and l amicably resolve
the issue as expected by the Anambra state government.

He reminded members of the community that still want to submit
memorandum to the panel, that they still have opportunity to do so,
and assured that the Panel will be fair and transparent in handling
the matter.

Contributing, some members of the Panel, including Traditional Ruler
of Ukeh community, Igwe Charles Agballa, that of Okpuno, Igwe Sunday
Okafor , and his Akwaihedi counterpart, Igwe Wisdom Onebune, reminded
people of Ifite-Nteje that they are brothers, and as such should allow
peace to reign, and asked them to be mindful of information they are
supplying to the Panel, as according to them, land issues demand
truth and honesty as tempering with ancient land attracts huge divine
repercussions.

In their various remarks, the Traditional Ruler of Nteje, Igwe Odegbo,
President General of the community, Mr Benet Chinweze, and the oldest
man in Nteje, Mr Onyekwe Akwuba, aged one hundred and ten,
regretted that such an issue erupted in Nteje, a community they said
was very peaceful before now.

Other members of the ten – man committee present at the meeting
include the State Commissioner for Lands, Mr Bonaventure Enemali,
Commissioner for Basic Education, Professor Kate Omenugha, Secretary
of the Panel, Mr. Boniface Ezelefeanya, Executive Secretary SEMA Chief
Paul Odenigbo, Barrister Ifeanyi Oguejiofor, and Mrs. Chinyere
Nwabachili.

The Panel was inaugurated by the Anambra state government on eleventh
of June, 2020, and is expected to conclude it’s assignment within
two months.
