Government of Anambra State has announced plans to prioritize and concession water provision across the state under Public Private Partnership arrangement.
Commissioner for Public Utilities and Water Resources, Mr. Emeka Ezenwanne disclosed this during “Meet the Media”, organized to give insights into Governor Willie Obiano’s administration.
Government House Correspondent, Ejike Abana reports that the event was held at the State Secretariat Complex, Awka.
Commissioner Ezenwanne who revealed that a major challenge hampering developments in utility provision across that state is the problem of project sustainability, said that the present administration has concluded plans to privatize the Onitsha Water Scheme for sustainability.
According to the Commissioner, with Onitsha Water scheme as the pilot project , the same intervention will be applied to Obizi and Otuocha water schemes as well as thirty-three others in the state.
Commissioner Ezenwanne said that once privatized, water provision will begin to run like a business, thereby eliminating bottlenecks.
The commissioner also talked about other projects under the present administration including rural electrification, provision of over one thousand eight hundred kilometers of street light, with three thousand one hundred and fifty lamps and two hundred and eight networks.
He said that Governor Obiano has equipped the state fire service with fire fighting facilities, training, making it an agency, as well as provision of large industrial borehole in some markets to to facilitate fighting fire outbreak.
He also said that government is providing wash facilities in nine hundred schools, with about five hundred already done.
Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. James Eze, his Deputy, Mr. Emeka Ozumba, among others were present at the event.
