Chief Sir Stephen Nwaonwuegbune Nwabuike, a Jerusalem pilgrim, a gallant soldier and one of the foremost Anglican Christians of the century from Umuawulu, Awka South Local Government Area, will be buried tomorrow, Friday, July 24, 2020. Stephen was born to the family of Nwafor Ugoada Margarette Nwabuike in Awgba family, Agbani Village, Umuawulu, in 1953.

Chief Nwabuike, the Osuofia Chukwukwadolu of Umuawulu, was the fifth and last child of his parents. He ventured into business after his education and joined his late brother, Nze Godwin Nwabuike (Enyikwonwa) at Aba. From there he proceeded to Onitsha under the tutelage of late Chief Dennis Agunwa (Ide Umuawulu). He later went to Nkpor-Agu, to also learn business under his Late cousin, Chief George Nwankwo.

Eventually, Chief Nwabuike started his own trading career at the Old Auto Spare Parts, Nkpor-Agu. Since then till his death, God had been faithful to him. In 1983, he married his heart throb, Ngozi Regina. The marriage produced three children.

Chief Sir Nwabuike was a former chairman, Works Committee, Saint Paul’s Anglican Church; Chairman, Works Committee, Old Mercedes Spare Parts, Nkpor-Agu; Chairman, Agbani Village, Umuawulu; Vice President, Umuawulu Progressive Union; and chairman, Caretaker Committee, Umuawulu. He was also chairman, Saint Mark’s Anglican Church meeting, Onitsha branch; chairman, Men’s Zone 1, St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Nkpor-Agu; Chairman, IWO Social Club of Nigeria; Treasurer, Agbana Umuawulu Men’s General Meeting; Treasurer, Council of Knights Nkpor Archdeaconry; and Chairman, Landlord’s Association, Amafor West, Nkpor-Agu.

Until his demise, Chief Sir Stephen Nwabuike was the Treasurer, Ifeadigo Age Grade, Agbana, Umuawulu; Member, PCC, St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Nkpor-Agu and Saint Marks Anglican Church, Umuawulu. He was Vice Chairman, Ifeadigo Age Grade, Agbana Village, Umuawulu; Chairman, Umuawulu Progressive Union, and Chairman, Awgba family, Agbana Village; chairman, Harvest Committee, St. Mark’s Anglican Church, Umuawulu; Chairman, Work’s Committee, Umuawulu progressive Union, Onitsha branch and member, works’ committee, St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Nkpor-Agu. These were not all.

Chief Sir Nwabuike was also Treasurer, Knight of Saint Christopher New Covenant Archdeaconry, Nkpor-Agu, from inception till his death. Other position he held include Treausrer, St. Mark’s Parish, U.P.U. Onitsha branch; chairman, Building Committee, UPU hall. He was also one of the trustees, Old Mercedes Spare Parts, Mgbuka, Nkpor-Agu, Member, People’s club of Nigeria, Umuawulu Social Club; Inventor, “Akuchie Ability” Mercedes Spare Parts; Chairman, S.N. Nwabuike and Sons Limited., Director, Jehova Echeghi Obodo Motors; Director, Divine reigning Kings and Queens Group of Schools’ and Director, 707 bet (Nigeria) Limited.

Chief Sir Nwabuike was also an active member of St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Nkpor-Agu and Saint Mark’s Anglican Church, respectively. A member of Father’s fellowship in both churches, late Osuofia Chukwukwadolu was also patron, Boys’ and Girls’ brigade, Choir, AYF, and Anglican Boys Association (Aba) of Saint Paul’s Anglican Church, and Saint Mark’s Anglican Church, as well. He was also Patron, Young Wives Fellowship, St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Nkpor-Agu and Patron, AYF, Nkpor Archdeaconry.

Chief Sir Nwabuike was recognized as a Chief and member of Igwe’s Cabinet at Umuawulu. His contributions to community development, security and peaceful coexistence were legendary and worthy of emulation. He was a gallant Knight of Saint Christopher in the Diocese on the Niger, Anglican Communion.

Chief Sir S.N. Nwabuike (JP), Osuofia Chukwukwadolu, was survived by Ezinne Lady Nwabuike, Ngozi Regina (JP) (nee okeke) – Wife; Engr. (Dr.) Chukwuebuka Chikelue Nwabuike – Son; Mrs Obimdike, Chinazaekpere Amarachukwu (Nee Nwabuike) – Daughter; Nwabuike, mmesoma Blessing – Daughter; Mrs Mgbogoye Nweke-Aghiri (Nee Nwabuike) – Sister. And many other relations, including Dr. Ifeoma Madukasi MD/CEO, TRACAS NIG LTD.
