The Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government
Chieftaincy and Town Union Matters has directed the Anambra West Local
Government Council Authority to be mindful of the procurement law in
execution of capital projects.

The Committee gave the directive when it embarked on oversight function at the local government headquarters at Nzam as part of its
constitutional responsibilities.

Speaking to journalists during the meeting, the chairman of the
Committee, Dr. Pete Ibida explained that the essence of the visit was
to ascertain whether the local government authority followed
procurement law in execution of capital projects and disbursement of
funds.

Dr Pete who urged the local government council to keep their records
straight, mandated their works department to always follow procurement
law in award of contracts to encourage probity and good public
accounting system.

He however commended the local government staff for being dedicated to duty.

In his remark, the Transition Committee Chairman, of the Local
Government Area, Mr. Sylvester Okafor noted that the visit of the
Committee to the local government council has brought a change in the
area, assuring that they will adhere strictly to their directive.

The Local Government chairman while commending the Anambra State House of Assembly for being alive to their responsibilities, noted that its
oversight function at local government councils has brought serious
transformation in local government administration
