Anambra State House of Assembly has passed a resolution urging Governor Willie Obinano to direct the Commissioner for Road Construction, Furniture and Maintenance to urgently call back to siteueg the contractor handling Oyeagu-Abagana-Abagana Girls and Uruegbe Primary School Nimo Road.

The House passed the resolution following a motion sponsored to that effect by the member representing Njikoka Two Constituency, Dr. Pete Ibida during plenary.

House of Assembly Correspondent, Chukwuemeka Modilim was there and reports thah Section twenty of the 1999 constitution as amended provides that the protection and improvement of the environment is the fundamental objective of the state.

It is on this backdrop, that Dr Ibida sponsored the motion.
Explaining the motion, Dr. Ibida said the terrible condition of the road has been causing flood erosion and generating untold hardship to the residents and road users.

According to him, several houses, schools and valuable property including farmlands are adversely affected by the erosion.
The Speaker of the House the motion as timely commended Governor Willie Obiano for his efforts in the reconstruction of dilapidated roads across the state.

Also at plenary, the House passed a resolution directing the appropriate authority to comply with Governor Willie Obiano’s extension policy of teachers’ retirement from sixty years to sixty-five years it was originally planned.

The House resolved that in the interim, the Ministry of Basic Education and Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board, ASUBEB, should be stopped from further engagement of new beneficiaries until proper assessment is done on the present beneficiaries.

It also resolved that the beneficiaries, who have not been paid since January, 2020 should be paid their entitlements immediately and for the ASUBEB Chairman to report due compliance to the House after one month from the date of this resolution.

While presenting the recommendation to the House, the Chairman, House Committee on public petitions, Honourable Emeka Aforka commended the House for passing the recommendation made by his committee as regards the petition brought to the House by the Nigeria Union of Teachers, Anambra State Chapter.
