The Anambra State House of Assembly has passed a resolution urging Governor Willie Obiano to upgrade Nkwo Nnewi to an international market standard.

The House passed the resolution following a motion sponsored by the member representing Nnewi North Constituency, Honourable Nonso Okafor during yesterdays plenary.

House of Assembly Correspondent Chukwuemeka Modilim reports that the Lawmaker while explaining the motion stated that Nkwo Nnewi is a very big and strategic market in Anambra State generating huge revenue to the traders and government with even greater potential to do more if well developed.

He lamented that the present infrastructural decay of the market is posing serious draw back to the realization of the full potential of the market thereby reducing the capacity of the traders to grow wealth which in turn has negative effects on the internally generated revenue from the market.
Honourable Okafor observed that the present self-help trend adopted in the market where the traders try to develop it themselves will leave much to be desired in the long run since it appears not to follow a particular prototype.
The Deputy Speaker, Dr Paschal Agbodike who presided over the plenary expressed confidence that Governor Willie Obiano will do the needful in this regard.

Also at plenary, the House passed another resolution urging Governor Willie Obiano to direct the Commissioner for works and the Managing Director, Anambra State Road Maintenance Agency, to commence repair and maintenance of Uga-Amesi-Umuchu-Umunze road, particularly Ahommiri and Uga roundabout sections of the road.

The House passed the resolution following a motion sponsored by the member representing Aguata One Constituency, Dr. Carter Umeh.
The lawmaker explained that the road serves as a major link road in Aguata local government area.

Dr. Umeh regretted that the deplorable condition of the road, especially Ahommiri and Uga sections endanger the lives of motorists and commuters who ply the route as hoodlums and armed men use the area as their hide out.
