The Anambra State House of Assembly has passed a bill for a law to provide for the management of funds of the Anambra State House of Assembly by the House.


The Bill which is sponsored by the Majority Leader, Dr. Nnamdi Okafor and twenty nine others was passed during yesterday’s plenary in Awka.
House of Assembly Correspondent, Chukwuemeka Modilim was there and reports that while presenting the bill to the House for passage, Dr. Okafor explained that the bill seeks to provide for the management of funds accruing to the Assembly from the Consolidated Revenue Fund in order to ensure transparency, effectiveness and efficiency in the utilization of the funds.


The Speaker of the House, Right Honourable Uche Okafor read out the Bill for passage, while the lawmakers supported it through a voice vote.
Also at plenary, the House passed a resolution urging the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Police Command to execute an arrest warrant to secure the appearance of Mr. Osita Agina, Managing Director of Oyitraco limited and Mr. Kenneth Okigbo before the Anambra State House of Assembly plenary on Tuesday, first of September this year.
The House passed the resolution following a motion sponsored to that effect by the Chief Whip and member representing Dunukofia Constituency, Honourable Lawrence Ezeudu.


According to Honourable Ezeudu who is also the Chairman, House of Assembly Special Taskforce Committee on Environmental Degradation, his Committee has invited Messers Agina and Okaigbo severally to appear before it to explain why they engaged in unauthorized excavation of laterite, local sharp sand and stones and illegal mining within Anambra South Central and Anambra North Senatorial zones respectively but they failed to honour the invitation.
The Legislator maintained that the issuance of an arrest warrant will secure the presence of the men before the House and will arrest their unwholesome acts.


In their separate speeches, the member representing Njikoka One Constituency, Dr. Timothy Ifedioramma, his Orumba North Constituency Counterpart, Honourable Emeka Aforka and the member for Orumba South Constituency, Honourable Emma Nwafor condemned the failure of the men to appear before the Committee without any cogent reason as provided by section 129 of the 1999 constitution as amended and urged the Anambra State Police Command to carry out the directive of the House in the interest of the state.
