Anambra state is celebrating its 29th anniversary today.
The present day Anambra state was created in 1991, after a
re-organisation that carved it from the old Anambra which was created
in 1976 and had Enugu as it capital.
Anambra state, as is today, is the eight most populated states in
Nigeria, with ninety-eight percent Igbo population and two percent
population of Igala who live mainly in the North-Western part of the
state.
The state has the lowest poverty rate in Nigeria.
As with other states in Nigeria, Anambra state has had series of
political changes, from the period of military rule to the present day
democratic political process.
