The Commissioner for Health, Dr Vincent Okpala has challenged nutrition experts in the state to identify ways of maintaining sustainable eating culture for good health of Ndi Anambra.


Dr Okpala gave the challenge during a virtual and physical inaugural ceremony of Nutrition Society of Nigeria Anambra State chapter, held at the Conference Hall, Ministry of Health Jerome Udorji Secretariat Awka.
Correspondent, Theophilus Ukoha reports that while speaking during the virtual inaugural ceremony, which had participants joined from various parts of the country and beyond, Dr Okpala described nutrition specialists as major stakeholders in the health sector as they play important role in providing appropriate data on nutrition to avoid uncompromising indices.
He urged the members to be on top of their vocation to enlighten the public on proper ways to avoid malnutrition especially on new born babies and to identify ways of using local feeds in management of diseases.


The Chairperson, Anambra State chapter of Nutrition Society of Nigeria, Dr Justina Okoli said Anambra State Nutrition experts, moved by current prevailing health challenges occasioned by non communicable diseases, ignorance, poverty, poor feeding habits and lack of basic health care needs, came together to help educate all on the importance of making proper dietary choices.


Mrs. Ngozi Onuora, a UNICEF Nutrition Specialists, in a paper presentation, x-rayed the importance of prioritizing the issue of malnutrition as it is a significant risk factor against proper health and development in Nigeria especially during the COVID-19 Pandemic.


Later while inaugurating the executive members, the National President, Dr Barth Brai, represented by the National Secretary, NSN, Mr. Charles Nkwoala, charged them to go extra miles to ensure the public are well enlightened on proper ways to avoid malnutrition to save more lives.
In her speech, the Rector Anambra State Polytechnic Mgbakwu and the chairman organizing committee of the inauguration, Dr. Nneka Meforh called on the men to join in the task of enlightening the populace on nutrition.
