Mr Blaize Nnadozie has been installed as the 37th President
Rotary club of Awka.
The installation ceremony took place over the weekend in Awka.
Correspondent Ngozi Obileri was at the event and reports that the installation ceremony was well attended by dignitaries including
Lawmakers and Commissioners among others.
At the event, the member representing Awka North and South Federal
Constituency Chief Chinedu Onwuaso, Deputy Speaker Anambra state House of Assembly, Honourable Paschal Agbodike and Anambra state
Commissioner for Public Utilities, Engineer Emeka Ezenwanne were
honoured with awards for humanitarian and community services.
Handing over the authority of leadership to the new President of the
club, the immediate past President, Professor Collins Nwogwugwu, urged
the new President to perform above expectation since the club has much
confidence in him, calling on all to give him maximum support.
In his acceptance speech, the new President Rotary club of Awka,
Mr Nnadozie said among other things, he will ensure the club
collaborate with security agencies in the state to ensure effective
conflict resolution and peace building aimed at protecting the youths from
drug abuse, cultism and other social vices that could mar their
future.
The Chairman district membership of the club, Professor AU Nonyelu
while receiving new entrants into the club said the event was also to
celebrate the end of polio in Nigeria which was achieved through the
Rotary Club in Nigeria and explained that bringing in new members is part of
the agenda of the club as the club needs both funds and foot soldiers
to succeed.
Speaking shortly after receiving their awards , Honourable Agbodike and
Engineer Ezenwanne, applauded Rotary for touching lives positively as
according to them , the selfless nature of Rotary was what motivated
them to institute foundations through which indigent children are sent to
school free of charge.
Earlier, the state Principal Save and Secure the Child Initiative, Mr.
Kingsley Obi, underscored the importance of proper child upbringing as
the best means of curbing social ills and bad morals, to ensure a
better society.
The event featured decoration of Paul Harris fellows on some
distinguished members of the club, induction of new members, cultural
display and cutting of cake.
