A non-governmental organization, Mandy “V” Favoured Foundation has
shared cooked food, drinks and money to some destitute people in Awka
and environs.
The foundation also distributed face masks and sensitised the people
on the need to uphold COVID-19 safety protocols.
Paul Ezeoke reports that the beneficiaries include, the beggars in front of Saint Mary’s Catholic Church, Awka, Saint Patrick’s Cathedral Awka, Pedestrian crossing at UNIZIK Temporary Site Awka and beggars at Igbariam axis of Onitsha-Enugu expressway.
The co-coordinator of the foundation, Mrs Evangeline Anaeto said they
initiated the intervention because of the increasing economic hardship
in the country which is making it difficult even for able bodied
people to eat one square meal a day and to give the less privileged
persons a sense of belonging to restore their hope for a better
future.
Mrs Anaeto explained that the foundation has a primary obligation of
assisting children and adults with disabilities and learning
challenges as well as giving skill acquisition to youths to become
productive and self reliant to reduce the burden of unemployment in
the country.
Also speaking, a member of the foundation, Mrs Ogechukwu Nnadozie,
urged the beneficiaries to always wear their face masks outside their
homes, wash their hands always and maintain proper hygiene to live
healthy life.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, a blind student from
University of Nigeria Nsukka, Miss Clara Onyeke and Mrs Anna Ibe, from
Imo state, thanked the foundation for remembering people with
disabilities and giving them succor.
