Amid ovation by members of the teaching profession, legislature, top
government functionaries and Church leaders, the remains of the late
Honourable Frank Okechukwu Ekpe, have been laid to rest at his country
home Enugwu-Ukwu, Njikoka Council Area of Anambra State.

The late Honourable Ekpe was before his death at the age of sixty-five
among others, served as the Anambra State Chairman of the Nigerian
Union of Teachers, NUT, and member representing Njikoka one
constituency at the state house of Assembly between 1999 and 2003,
where he served as the Chairman of Education Committee, which
recommended the establishment of the Anambra State University, now
Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University.

During a funeral service at St. Andrew’s Parish Enugwu-Ukwu, the
officiating priest, Reverend Canon Bernard Obiekwe, described the
deceased as a man of strong character and humble beginning, whose
dedicated services to God and humanity are worthy of emulation.
He reminded Christians that strong belief in God is the only solution
to man’s challenges on earth, urging the bereaved family, friends and
well-wishers to take solace in the exemplary life of the deceased.

Speaking after interment, some of the deceased family members,
including the wife, Tochukwu, son, Chukwuebuka, and brothers, Okwudili
and Benedict said the late Ekpe used his positions to touch lives in
positive ways, promising to uphold his legacies.

Some sympathizers, including a delegation of members of the NUT, led
by the Anambra State Chairman, Comrade Mrs. Nonye Chibeze, late Ekpe’s
colleague at the State Assembly, Honourable Onyekachi Aghanya, as well
as the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the ABS, Chief
Uche Nworah, said the late Honourable Ekpe was a committed son of
Enugwu-Ukwu, with spectacular achievements at the labour union and the
legislature.

Member representing Njikoka One constituency at the State Assembly,
Honourable Timothy Ifedioramma, and former Secretary to the State
Government, Prince Osita Ezenwa, were among dignitaries that joined in
bidding farewell to the late Ekpe, whom the Deputy Governor of the
State, Dr. Nkem Okeke, in his condolence message, said played key
role in the educational development of Anambra State.
